Exemption & Repayment

If one of the following reasons applies to you, you can be exempted from or, alternatively, refunded for the semester contribution fee (see rules regarding semester fees, Attention change of the rules regarding semester fees for summer semester 2018).

Tip: Please note that the semester contribution fee only contains the Studierendenwerk contribution fee and possibly the semester ticket fee. If you receive a complete repayment of the semester contribution fee, you will no longer have accident and third party liability insurance from the Studierendenwerk and will not be able to use the semester ticket. The Studierendenwerk can only refund their own semester contribution fee. Likewise, you can only receive a refund for student council fees from the student council themselves (exception: through an agreement with the StuKo, the Studierendenwerk can also refund the contribution fee of the student council of the "Franz Liszt" College of Music).

Semester Leave
When you register a semester leave within the re-registration period, you are exempted from the semester contribution fee. If you file an application after the re-registration period but before the beginning of the semester of leave, you can be reimbursed for the semester fee if you apply for a refund. Deadline for application: one day bevore semster starts.

Ex-matriculation Before the Beginning of the Semester
If you have already paid the semester fee and have been ex-matriculated before the beginning of the semester in question, the contribution fee will be refunded if you apply for it. Deadline for application: one day bevore semster starts.

Change of University
If you are accepted or matriculated to a course of studies with limited admission at a university / Thüringen State Academy of Studies within a month after the beginning of the semester, you can file an application to be exempted from the semester contribution fee. Deadline for application: within one month after the semester has begun.

Place at University Renounced or not Received
If you have already paid the semester contribution fee and do not begin your studies, the contribution fee will be paid back to you. Deadline for application: one day bevore semster starts.

Below you will learn where you can file an application for a refund of the semester contribution fee at your university location.
