Cultural Promotion and Funding

The Studierendenwerk Thüringen supports more than 50 student projects every year. Thus, we support a diverse cultural offer in your city.
Would you like to organise your own international, cultural or sports projects? Then you are welcome here. We will be pleased to advise you on financing and implementing your ideas.

In the summer semester 2022, the Studierendenwerk Thüringen will provide € 25,000 for your cultural projects themed "Relaunch Culture: Leave the screen and enter life again”. We look forward to your ideas, which we will support according to the funding guidelines and terms of participation. We invite you to apply for cultural funding for your initiatives now.

This is how it works as of the summer semester 2022:

The call for proposals and projects for the summer semester 2022 takes place from 15 April to 31 May 2022. During this period, you can submit applications for projects that will be carried out from June to November 2022.
The next submission period for your projects from December to May is expected to start on 15 October 2022.

You can take part provided you registered at a university that is supervised by the Studierendenwerk Thüringen. Individuals, project groups and associations with student status are eligible to participate. Only one application is accepted per applicant or project group.

We promote and thus fund cultural initiatives, intercultural get-togethers, and sports activities by students for students. These projects must take place in students' free time and be organised on a voluntary basis. Cross-university projects and initiatives of diverse and mixed teams are most likely to receive funding. We also consider it important for the projects to be intercultural in content. We would like as many students as possible to organise the projects and as many students as possible in the audience.

Due to our guidelines, we cannot fund religious projects and political initiatives. Commercial events and parties as well as university-related projects are also excluded from funding, i.e., no ECTS or other academic achievements required for studies at a university may be recognised for the project. We may cover the costs of food and beverages (e.g., for intercultural cooking evenings) as well as transport, postage, and office expenses in justified exceptional cases.

Due to the topic of the call for proposals for the summer semester 2022, merely digital projects are excluded from funding.

One-day projects are funded with max. 1,000 euros.
Two-day projects are funded with max. 2,000 euros.
Three-day projects are funded with max. 3,000 euros.
Four-day projects are funded with max. 4,000 euros.

The maximum amount of funding provided by the Studierendenwerk is 5,000 euros.

The Studierendenwerk Thüringen can fully finance projects with a budget of up to 1,000 euros. For project applications that exceed this budget, additional funding must be made available and included.

  • Application form: The application form is here.

  • Project description: We would like to know who you are and what your goals are for the project. How are you going to carry out the project? Which target group should be addressed? How are you going to advertise the project? Why should the project be supported? These are questions that your project description should answer on approx. 1 to 2 pages.

  • Finance plan: This provides a detailed breakdown of the planned income and expenditure for the overall project. The financing plan must be cost-effective, calculated economically and balanced, i.e., the total expenditure should correspond to the total income inkluding the funding applied for at the Studierendenwerk.

You may send the complete application documents by e-mail to You can also use this address to contact us if you have any questions or need help with the application process or project implementation.

The decision on funding will be made by an independent jury at the end of the period for submission of applications. Its members are the staff of the cultural offices, the Managing Director of the Studierendenwerk, and students.
The jury's decisions are final and cannot be appealed. Applicants selected for funding will be notified at the beginning of June 2022.

The beneficiaries selected by the jury will be informed in writing at the email address they provided.

The funding is transferred to the current account indicated on the application form after sending the letter of approval. The funding is thus already available to you before the start of the project and ensures that you can reliably plan your project.
