The project provides an interesting alternative to residence halls and the usual means of renting out private rooms. Such joint accommodation not only offers students affordable housing facilities during their studies, but also family-like relationships. This way, the model promotes social and emotional values such as tolerance, community, and solidarity.
Moreover, the initiative can build bridges between the young and the elderly and offer families or senior citizens new ways of shaping their daily routines. Accordingly, the project’s initiators wish to quickly fill deserted children’s rooms and empty apartments.
“Accommodation for Assistance” can be designed quite individually according to the needs of the people involved: one could mow the lawn, babysit, do household chores, buy groceries, or entertain the child in a foreign language in one’s spare time.
