Short time loans in the corona crisis (socialloan)
The Studierendenwerk Thüringen provides uncomplicated
and quick help to students who are in financial distress through no
fault of their own as a result of the Corona crisis. They can apply for
an interest-free short-term loan up to a maximum of 800 euros,
which will be granted as a social loan with the support of the
universities during the pandemic.
According to a decision of the Thuringian State Parliament, the Free State of Thuringia supports all borrowers with Corona financial aid by converting 50 percent of the loan amount into a grant. The students concerned will therefore only have to repay 50 percent of the amount borrowed. This also applies to students who have already signed a contract for a social loan for the full amount after April 1, 2020, and they will be informed accordingly by the Studierendenwerk Thüringen.

Middle and Long Term Hardship Loans
The Studierendenwerk Thueringen can give out interest free loans for a maximum of 12 months out of their own resources and out of the resources of the German Studentenwerk. This possibility is intended for students in need, who without having any debt, have landed in a financial hardship which endangers their ability to continue their studies.
When filing the application of an upcoming hardship loan, the student needs to provide proof of their financial need in addition to the prospect of the long-term financing of their studies as well as the prospect of finishing their studies. Hardship loans are made to be a financial aid in temporary financial emergencies. They cannot be used as a replacement for a scholarship or another form of long-term financial support.
