Our child day care center can be found in Jena Ost, in a wonderful, beautiful and completely sanitized villa. The villa is located in a tranquil area only a few steps away from the forest. Despite this, we are only 15 minutes walking distance away from the city center and there is a convenient connection to the city’s public transportation.
Our pedagogical concept is oriented around the prejudice-aware education and upbringing and different progressive educational approaches, such as the situational approach and regional-education, amongst others.
We see the child as an active participant in their own development and support and look after them carefully during their acquisition of knowledge and understanding. On our ground floor, the kindergarten aged children work with us in home groups with a bit of age group mixing and fulfill partially shared jobs and activities. Thematically decorated rooms, such as a child restaurant, role playing- and theater playroom with a plateau, that we call the covered box, a building and construction room with another plateau, a mini-experiment room as well as a hobby and exercise room.
The upper floor has four large rooms and a roof covered balcony and is reserved for our younger children.
There are two groups on the upper floor. While the youngest ones live, learn, laugh and play in an age-homogenous nest, the 2-3 year old children conquer the world in the world explorers group.

Not far from the university grounds and close to the city center, you can find the child day care center Landgrafensteig.
The former bar-villa was completely renovated from the ground up in 2001 and was brought up to meet the modern needs of a children’s facility. In a spaciously laid out garden, the children can let off steam and run wild.
Our work with the children is strongly centered around prejudice-aware education and upbringing. We see children as active participants in their own development and make it our duty to offer the children the time and space they need in order to support their desire to acquire new knowledge.
Furthermore, the children have the right of making decisions with us in all
of the procedures that make up their daily life, so that they feel as if they
are understood and are being taken seriously. Altogether
we have six home groups on three different floors. For
play time, we work partially share the individual floors, for which we have a
functional area in specific group rooms.

Our children’s facility Seidelhaus can be found within close proximity of the Institute of Sport Sciences. You can reach us conveniently with the bus and tram. The house built in 1928 has been used as a children’s facility for the university since 1974. In 1991, the sponsorship went over to the Studentenwerk. At the beginning of 2006, the complete reconstruction of the house was set in motion and was successfully completed in April of 2007.
We see ourselves as a kindergarten of exercise. In 2009, we were certified as an “exercise-friendly kindergarten” by the State Sport Association. The layout of the interior space and the garden is in some way connected to the free development of personality, exercise and especially playing games. For children starting with the age of 3, functional rooms for a studio, construction room, role-play room and child restaurant are available. We work by the situational approach and by the philosophy of the regional-education system. We trust the children with the responsibility of completing the necessary steps for their own development through their own actions.
The primary focus of our pedagogical behaviour is based on the needs, abilities and interests of each individual child through active observances and supporting the learning process.

Our child day care center can be found at the southern part of Jena at the outskirts of the Beutenberg Campus.
Our day care center is conceptually based on the situational approach, while impulses of the reform pedagogical approach, as well as trainings and advanced trainings have influenced our work and will be developed further.
The children are cared for in four groups. In two groups on the lower lever, we work in partially mixed age groups. With the youngest of our world explorers, we work in two age-homogenous home groups on the upper floor.

The Studierendenwerk Thüringen offers, in cooperation with the university and the University of Applied Science Jena, the flexible day care center JUniKinder on the university campus at Ernst-Abbe-Platz 5.
Student Parents as well as employees of the Studentenwerk and the universities in Jena can leave their children (between the ages of 12 weeks – 10 years old) in the hands of student assistants who have experience in child care for 2-4 hours a day, and a maximum of 10 hours a week respectively, so that they can attend seminars or visit lectures, take advantage of open office hours or simply attend to daily errands. Our open hours on Monday – Thursday from 8 am to 8 pm and on Friday from 8 am to 2 pm also serve to help make studying and working with children stress-free. Two big bright rooms, divided into play and nap areas, as well as a children’s bathroom are available for the children to use. The employees of JUnikinder also organize child day care for special events, conferences, congresses and weekend seminars.
Booking a place can be done in blocks (1 block equals 2 hrs). Blocks can also be booked over a longer period of time. The payment is given in advance, with a contribution of 4 €/ or 6.50 € per 2 hrs. Booking is possible online over the FSU Homepage “Family in the University”.
