Sustainable living

Saving energy

Everyone can become active within their own four walls and help to conserve resources and thus protect the environment. Careful use of energy and water can avoid higher costs.

  • While airing the room switch off heaters.
  • Correct procedure of airing: two to three times a day with the window wide open, no permanent airing with the window on tilt.
  • An optimal room temperature in the room is 20-22 degrees Celsius.
  • Heating on "star" if the flat is not used for several days.

  • Switch off electric appliances and lamps when not in use.
  • Open the fridge door only if something is to be taken out.
  • Defrost the fridge regularly.
But carefully: take out food stuff and turn the dial to 0 (zero), open fridge door (overnight would be best), put in dry cloths (to soak up water). Once everything is defrosted, wipe out with clear water or water containing a little washing up liquid or vinegar and put back on. Do not use any objects to remove ice or aggressive cleaning agents!
  • Do not put warm food in the refrigerator, but let food cool down in the room beforehand.
  • Cover the pot when cooking - this saves energy and the food is ready faster.

  • Shut off the water tap properly.
  • To wash dishes: put water into the sink and wash the dishes, rinse with fresh water afterwards.
  • When leaving the accomodation, check that nothing is dripping and that all taps are turned off.
  • Shower only as long as necessary. Turn off the water while soaping up.
  • Do not leave the water running while brushing your teeth.
